CHEFS OF THE CARIBBEAN RESTAURANT NOW OPEN AT MIA

Eatery is newest local small business to open at the hub airport

(Miami-Dade County, FL) —

Caribbean favorites such as Escovich red snapper, curry and jerk chicken, conch fritters, Creole mashed plantains and oxtail are now being served at Chefs of the Caribbean, the newest restaurant at Miami International Airport that gives travelers a taste of South Florida culture without leaving the airport.

Located at Gate D-29, the new eatery opened today with a diverse menu of breakfast, lunch and dinner dishes, and the ever-popular Jamaican patty – available in beef, curry chicken or vegetable. The location also features Caribbean-inspired soups, sandwiches, salads, desserts and beverages, including beers from Jamaica, Haiti, the Dominican Republic and the Bahamas.

Chefs of the Caribbean is also the latest airport concession disadvantaged business enterprise (ACDBE) added to MIA’s South Florida-themed North Terminal Marketplace area between Gates D-26 and D-29. The Marketplace already features other local ACDBEs such as 305 Pizza, Cuban Crafters cigars, Fig and Fennel, Half Moon Empanadas and My Ceviche.

“We’re proud to add even more diversity to our dining options with the opening of Chefs of the Caribbean,” said Miami-Dade Aviation Director Emilio T. González. “With service to more than 150 destinations around the world, it’s important that we cater to the multi-cultural preferences of our customers. Being a small business champion is also one of our top priorities, which is why we enthusiastically congratulate Chefs of the Caribbean on its successful launch today.”

In April, MIA received Airports Council International-North America’s 2016 Inclusion Champion Award in the Large Hub Airport category, which commends the proactive and innovative steps taken by the Miami-Dade Aviation Department (MDAD) to successfully achieve minority inclusion in its business contracts, workforce and employee development through a sustainable model.

In March, MIA also won Best Airport for Shopping in the USA Today 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards for its overall retail program. The 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards were voted on by more than 83,000 USA Today readers.
