Sorrel Cocktail

  • 2 quarts water
  • 6 ounces dried red sorrel buds
  • 3 whole cloves
  • cinnamon stick
  • 4 ounces ginger, sliced thin
  • Ice cubes
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 ounces lemon juice
  • ice
  • 4 ounces rum
  • Lemon slices for garnish

Bring the water to a boil, remove from the heat, and add the sorrel, ginger. cloves, sugar and cinnamon sticks and let steep for at least 1 hour or overnight then strain.
Add ice cubes to a shaker. For 2 servings, add to the shaker about 2 or 3 ounces strained juice,  a splash of lemon juice and a jigger of rum. Shake well and pour.
